Booking your first electrolysis appointment is a big step, and it's completely normal to have questions. At Alara Electrology, we want you to feel informed and at ease before you ever sit down in our treatment chair. Here's a walk-through of what your first visit actually looks like.
The Consultation Comes First
Every new client starts with a consultation. We'll talk about your hair removal goals, review your skin and hair type, and answer any questions you have about the process. This is also when we'll do a brief test patch to see how your skin responds to electrolysis — so there are no surprises on treatment day.
The Treatment Itself
Electrolysis works by inserting a very fine probe into each individual hair follicle and delivering a small amount of electrical current to permanently destroy the follicle's growth cells. The sensation varies by person — most describe it as a brief warmth or a light pinch. Topical numbing cream is available if you'd like extra comfort.
Sessions typically run 15 to 60 minutes depending on the treatment area. We'll recommend a session length based on what we discussed in your consultation.
After Your Appointment
Your skin may look slightly red or feel tender for a few hours after treatment — this is completely normal and usually resolves by the next day. We'll send you home with aftercare instructions and schedule your follow-up before you leave.
